• APPG Chair Rachel Maclean MP questions Minister on ivory ban

On Thursday 25 January, Rachel Maclean MP, Chair of the APPG on Endangered Species, asked Therese Coffey, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Environment, whether the Government planned to have its proposed ban on UK ivory sales in place in time for the London 2018 Illegal Wildlife Trade Summit.

Ms Maclean highlighted that wildlife crime is a threat to conservation and animal welfare at home and abroad and referenced Wildlife and Countryside Link’s report which revealed that enforcement officers are hindered by a lack of proper recording and reporting processes.

Ms Maclean asked for reassurance from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs as to what measures were being taken to address the matter.
